It is not so much the actual act or reaching salvation that I am
concerned with. It is the actual price of it. A good Catholic is
supposed to give, and give, and give. Priests were the first people
that mastered the selling of intangibles. The intangible in question
is indulgances. The indugance was a commodity invented by the church
that stood as an obstacle to salvation. The relief for the indulgance
was money. And every priest in every empire was more than able to
relieve an indulgance. Of course, the more wealthy had to pay a
little more than the very poor. But then, the very poor could not
even afford getting married by a priest. So the priesthood really hit
up the wealthy to make sure that they and thier relatives were
guaranteed the entry into the kingdom of heaven. But then look at the
egyptian kings and the wealth buried with them to insure that they
could live in style in the afterlife. The ultimate fact is if you
want to live in style in the afterlife, you have to PAY the Catholic
church!
