Hi RussellT,
There is a large growing interest in Buddhism in China, especially
among the upper class as more are becoming wealthier they still feel
something missing! This is the void that spirituality comes in to
their minds and Buddhism seems to fit the best as it was practiced
widely by their great ancestors. This is especially true in Taiwan
(Dalai Lama visited in 2001) where Tibetan Buddhism is thriving and
many Taiwanese also have connection back in Mainland so they hear more
about the benefits of Tibetan Buddhism. Personally, I see this as a
way to use the Dalai Lama's wide sup****t to bring Stability in China
IF the Beijing leaders are wise enough. This is one of the reasons why
I think Dalai lama is not the enemy for China but a key in bringing
peace and stablity in China.
