Paul's conversion

"Jesus did not appear to him from the sky while he was
travelling along the road. When Saul was in 'the Way'
(hodos) he was in the room where worship was held
in the Damascus monastery, the portion that was
reserved for proselytes. As Acts 9: 2 shows, 'the Way'
(hodos) was the name of a party. In the Damascus
Document, which may be seen to come from the
ascetics of this period, there is a criticism of the
heretics who have perverted the Way (Heb derek) (CD
1:12-14). They were teaching proselytes, who had
begun to follow the Way, the Truth, and the Life, that
it was not necessary to be circumcised and adopt
Jewish identity. Saul had come to attack the liberal
version of the Way."
