I no longer read any posts from He Who Must Not Be Named, but
he is, no doubt, bleating out "it's all lies!" like a broken
record as usual.
Here, in his own words, is him explaining that he knew what the
rules were, knew the consequences of breaking the rules, and
chose to break them anyway.
"I do what some people consider radical things during Worship"
-David Christainsen
"I broke the rules this morning at Worship at Wellesley Meeting.
I expect a harsh reaction soon from the POWERS THAT BE in Wellesley
for my boldness. But, I am prepared to take the consequences.
Would that other Friends be prepared to take the consequences should
they decide to function as a minister --- A GOOD THING!"
-David Christainsen
"They[Clerk & Council] said in letter after letter to me that my
speech in Worship caused MASSIVE PAIN. Once, Elise Boulding told me
to GET OUT right in the middle of Worship.
-David Christainsen
"They bucked my conscience directly by impugning my character with
calumny IN SECRET over a period of years and claiming falsely that
Christ's Teaching on Marriage was "disruptive".
-David Christainsen
"Nancy Haines & others, way back when, had been whaling the tar in
criticism of me behind my back that my original speaking on Marriage
had been 'dictatorial', 'disruptive', 'imposing'.
-David Christainsen
In consequence, I declared war on those at Wellesley Meeting [a HUGE
majority] who have betrayed Jesus Christ and the Richmond Declaration
of Faith..."
-David Christainsen
"Wellesley Meeting has crossed the line. And they need to take the
consequences. As a religious institution, Wellesley Meeting has yet
to learn -- what goes around, comes around."
-David Christainsen
"There came a time when Ministry & Counsel banned me from speaking on
Marriage in Worship And so it was a gang-up, some by people who were
not even members but attenders. It was more convenient to send David
Christainsen a letter filled with accusations on how I disrespect the
feelings of others.
-David Christainsen
"I feel I have already established the point that Wellesley Monthly
Meeting itself is slipshod, even reckless, for the community and at
times DISHONEST"
-David Christainsen
"The accusations in our Wellesley Meeting that I break the rules for
WORSHIP are just politics. They are destructive because they
compromise the integrity of MINISTRY & COUNSEL."
-David Christainsen
"A large group had sincerely perceived my speaking in Worship as
TIRADES and unwarranted use of Biblical authority in an unprogramed
meeting. NOTHING is further from the truth. I told her that it was
their problem --- not mine. They weren't listening... flat out. And
instead of yielding their pain to God, they had started to blame one
individual with a FULL-COURT PRESS based on falsehood. Their eldering
has indeed failed in spiritual purpose."
-David Christainsen
"On the local level I decided to bring Christ to Wellesley Worship.
Merely by reading Christ's teaching on MARRIAGE & DIVORCE, I have
been banned from speaking on the matter in Worship the past three
years. It is the height of hypocrisy for a Meeting to forbid a member
to speak in Worship about Marriage.
-David Christainsen
"Recently, I wrote Nancy Haines - clerk of Wellesley, MASS Meeting;
'On grounds of moral conscience, I LONG AGO broke the Wellesley
Meeting ban in regards to Marriage & Divorce Reform. Impeaching the
messenger[myself] en masse was wrong and the act of cowards.' They
MIGHT be shamed into exerting their influence for the positive good
of the community in the direction of Marriage & Divorce Reform."
-David Christainsen
"In my case the basic principle was to continue to tell Wellesley
Meeting the truth over the long run despite their prejudice and
ignorance concerning Christ's teaching on marriage & divorce."
-David Christainsen
"Truth is a harsh mistress. I used every power in my being to make my
messages on Marriage & Divorce represent Jesus Christ faithfully. And
so, their Christian identity is weak and their standards lax.
Wellesley - my hometown. Please shed a tear - not for me, for them."
-David Christainsen
"No meeting anywhere should be disfellowshipping someone, in whole or
mostly for the reason of speaking in Worship a short verse of Paul's
on marriage - something having to do with loving your spouse as the
body of Christ. Neither has Ministry & Counsel any business banning
someone from speaking on Marriage in Worship. Of course, the
exception is truly disruptive speech or manner. Merely making a mass
of people uncomfortable with a brief reading of scripture does not
qualify unless the Meeting explicitly disavows all Christian
authority. Let the meeting break with Christian teaching if they must
but let them do it openly, not in an underhanded manner."
-David Christainsen
"When Ministry & Counsel lays down an edict that no member or a
specific member may not mention Marriage during Worship because a
subset of people are put in pain by their own past memories of
Marriage, it is a sign of immaturity on their part."
-David Christainsen
"When critics hide behind Ministry & Counsel and do not reveal their
names, it is unseemly. However, it was appropriate that I mentioned
New Testament verses on Marriage and the position of the Richmond
Declaration of Faith."
-David Christainsen
"My Meeting at Wellesley, MASS acted, in public statements and in
terminating my membership, as if Marriage were not a sacred
institution. They bucked my conscience directly by impugning my
character with calumny IN SECRET over a period of years and claiming
falsely that Christ's Teaching on Marriage was "disruptive". Yet, at
Wellesley my ministry to Marriage & Divorce Reform is still banned in
Worship with little prospect of apology from Monthly Meeting to me.
Please remember that the original cause of their ban against me was
my respectful reading of Christ's position from the NT. Among other
flimsy excuses representatives from Ministry & Counsel told me I was
a negative influence on children."
-David Christainsen
"Playing it safe in Worship is not my style..."
-David Christainsen
