Oh, well. We went to the Chicago Pagan meetup group's talk at the Occult
Bookstore here in Chi-town - *excellent* bookstore, really good vibes...
and the folks running it have a sense of humor.
Anyway, last night was supposed to be on shamanism.
*sigh*
A newager (rhymes with sewage). "Modern" shamanism, not from some
tradition,
and one of her Ten Points was 'helps you in your daily life". Right.
Nothing about how in all cultures that I know of that had a shamanic
tradition, the shaman was, or was defined by the group, as psychotic, or
that they were only asked for help under major life cir***stances.
We gave her about 10 minutes, and walked out, to browse and patronise the
store. Pity. For spring, they had druids (AdF), and that was very good;
for
Beltaine (or at least on the 3rd), they're going to have Asatru, who I
expect to be a lot harder nosed than newagers.
