I did not come to Paganism through D&D since I was a solitary long
before the first books were published - even the legendary ones before
AD&D. The game did, however, offer me an op****tunity to behave as
though "my" religion were a real one - and, in very short order, to
discover that I was not alone in the world, after all.
For that, I owe Gary Gygax and Frank Arneson a very real debt of
gratitude.
