I have often wondered that. I have read stories, and they are probably
just that, about what could be found in the  hill.

On the other hand, if the Lord is not prepared to let us receive
whatever is in the hill, if we excavate, or do any kind of digging,
there will be nothing found. Of that, I am certain.

I think Joseph gave the plates to Moroni, rather than putting them
back into the hill, so I seriously doubt they have been returned to
the box from whence they came. But as I said, if we are not to find
them, we won't.
