A creed is really a statement of belief is it not? By what authority do
the 
denominations have formal creeds? By the authority of committtees, I
think. 
I have not always, as you know, been a "Mormon" (still reject the name 
unless it is narrowly defined) and I once was a member of a group that
said 
something like "No creed but Christ, no law but love, no book but the 
Bible". Of course they seemed to think that no one had authority to define

what others must believe, and no ohter books were authoritative. But they 
must have been a little like your idea of "Mormons".
