The point I'm harping on, however, is the way Mormons jeopardize *what
concord is possible* by indulging speculations their faith does not
*obligate* them to embrace. That has nothing whatsoever to do with
correcting error -- in fact, it might well consist of courting it. It
has nothing to do with replacing what was lost, and everything to do
with causing needless conflict. It has everything to do with
SPECULATING, not with adding knowledge and understanding. And it
increases alienation as a result.

Orthodox and Mormonism may never agree on fundamentals, but some
Mormons are willing to construct a tower of trivia to make the
separation all the more marked and solid.

But as to the above paragraph, you're not responding to it so much as
you're reciting a mantra -- a talking point. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THE
PARAGRAPH?

In other words, any speculation may be defended as creative thinking.

What you just said could be claimed as a rationale for any speculation
whatsoever, by anyone, however irresponsible their speculations. Do
you realize that?

You really need to get out more.

That's like going to a Neil Young concert and lamenting that he's not
singing Dolly Parton.

Such remarks sound better on the lips of Mormon fundamentalists who
seem to have had a lot more revelation than the long string of
relatively milquetoast Mormon prophets, whose "revelations" have
consisted of things like catching up with civil rights. :-\
