So, what's the big deal? Does anyone's testimony hinge on whether a
priesthood leader wears a long-sleeved ****rt? I certainly hope not!
This is an example of the fact that some members have trouble
separating guidelines from policy, from culture, from doctrine. Many
members [like Pharisees] tend to take everything that emanates from
Salt Lake City as :"the mind and will of the Lord", to be accepted
without question, and followed [blindly!] in every aspect of their
lives. In actuality, as stated by the prophet Joseph Smith, we are to
govern ourselves, after learning correct principles. One of the most
im****tant of those principles is the seeking of personal inspiration,
so that we can effectively and properly exercise our free agency.
Prophets have told us that independent thinking is essential to our
eternal progress. But, so many insist on "being commanded in all
things", and would have their priesthood leaders do all their thinking
for them. That was the plan that was rejected in the pre-existence,
and over which there was a great war fought in the heavens.
Paul [who follows the Prophet after seeking personal testimony of what
the prophet says, and how it applies in my personal situation]
