Re: Shariah law of marriage

I reply to Altway April 9

Your retort that "Christianity is not based on the teachings of Jesus
as revealed to him by the Father in Heaven but is a made religion
based on human speculations or the interests of an organization" is a
distraction from my demonstration that the radical difference between
Christian and Islamic marriage, and the moral superiority of Christian
marriage, is merely obfuscated by quoting St Paul on the duty of
obedience he believed a wife owed her husband - an obedience which is
apparently in line with Koranic teaching.

Muslims as a matter of routine make your accusation about Christianity
not being based upon the teaching of Jesus, but they NEVER produce any
evidence. How, in fact, do you know? It is true that the Church's
teaching does include doctrines that are not found in the New
Testament: for instance teachings on abortion and contraception.
Although these practices were known in the ancient pagan world, Jesus
evidently felt no need in his mission to the Jews to warn against
them, but there is now a pressing need. Jesus did not bequeath the
world a holy book (God didn't bequeath HIM one either), a compendium
of all that one needs to know in matters of faith and morals - though
I have heard and read Muslims state that the Koran is that and more:
scientific knowledge is included - Jesus founded and left behind him a
community (guided by the Holy Spirit) and commissioned and gave
authority to this community to teach and to legislate (to bind and to
loose). Inevitably doctrine has to develop to meet new moral
cir***stances. This necessity holds for Islam too: do you think that
the whole of Islam is contained explicitly in the Koran and the
hadith? The Koran is not self-sufficient: a knowledge of historical
events is essential to its understanding and these events are obscure
and disputed: Islam needs the work of scholars to expound and explain
it, and these explanations are not found in the Koran.
