In its counter-radicalization strategy the UK government has established
the
Preventing Violent Extremism Pathfinder Fund which will dispense £45
million
to 200 projects to counteract jihadi propaganda. A Conservative MP seven
months ago asked for information about precisely where the money is going;
the Government has now made a full reply but could not guarantee that none
of the money has ended up with extremist organizations: central monitoring
has not yet been done.
Money has gone to controversial groups. The Cordoba Foundation founded by
the son of the Iraqi leader of the Muslim Brotherhoodwhich organized
debates
including one with Hizb-ut-Tahrir has received £19,000.The Islamic
Foundation described by a BBC programme as the most influential outpost of
militant Islamism in Europe has received funds. Other recipients include
mosques revealed to host imams delivering inflammatory sermons by the BBC
undercover Dispatches programme.
There is confusion and a complete lack of transparency in the Government's
ant-Islamism policy; but this is not surprising; confusion characterizes
the
whole of its 'policy' with regard to Islam and Islamism.
