Let me guess, this was suppose to be one of those
too hard to answer questions? Even Christ noted
that there will be those who have professed Christ
and have lived their lives under the assumption that
they are in fine standing with God only to hear at
judgment day, "Depart from me for I never knew you."

This is the point of James' argument as well. True
spiritual renewal necessarily bears the "good fruit",
the fruit of the Spirit. Regenerate faith produces
good works. Justification preceeds logically
sanctification. Sanctification flows out of justification
and expresses the new inclination that desires to
please God.

Peter warns because only God knows the heart.
Externals can be faked or duplicated though only
a shaddow of the true reality. God created the
external universe out of nothing. He created man
out of that which was dead or unanimated matter.
It was by His breathing in life that man became
living. As in the original so in the renewal. Man
cannot cause nor participate in his regeneration.
It is solely an act of God carried out at the full-
ness of time as predetermined in the foreordin-
ation of God as firmly established by the Decree.
