This is a formal Request For Discussion (RFD) to remove the moderated
newsgroup soc.religion.gnosis.
PROCEDURE:
The B8MB plans to begin voting on this proposal after five days.
Please offer any final discussion or comments before the end of this
waiting period. Voting may take up to one week (7 days); a result
will be posted following the end of the voting period.

No comments were received.
RATIONALE: remove soc.religion.gnosis
The last approval was in December 2000. Approvals in 2000 were often
s****aradic.
Possible actions include:
(1) Revive the group with a new moderator.
(2) Convert the group to an unmoderated status.
(3) Remove the group.
There is an equivalent unmoderated newsgroup (alt.religion.gnostic),
so an unmoderated soc.religion.gnosis may be redundant.
HISTORY:
The newsgroup soc.religion.gnosis was created in July 1994. An
earlier creation effort in November 1993 had narrowly missed the
required +100 plurality (151:56). It approvals until December 2000.
Traffic was often relatively light, with around 5 articles per week.

The purpose of 'soc.religion.gnosis' is to provide a place for
the serious discussion and exchange of questions, ideas, experience,
views, and information about of the historical and contem****ary
trends, techniques. practice and development of gnosis and
gnosticism, its related literature, and corresponding concepts
such as satvika-jnana (Sanskrit), Ma'rifat (Arabic), and certain
associated aspects of mystical ecstasy. Gnosis is the direct
experience or 'knowledge' of the fullness of the Divine Being. It
focuses on the illumination of the spirit by the realms beyond the
physical and psychic levels. Everyone is invited to take part in
this discussion.
