My understanding of things is that we should take such matters to the

Dear Doug,
Since Larry no longer believes in Baha'u'llah there is no real reason
for him to appeal to the institutions. As for whether this person
presented himself under false pretenses, we only have Larry's word for
this. The person in question who visited Larry is a man of great
integrity and I frankly don't believe he misrepresented himself. Nor
was he asked to "investigate" and "interrogate" Larry. There was
really no need to do that. Larry's posting which directly challenged
Baha'u'llah's teachings were all over the internet. According to the
NSA's own statement Dr. Mohsen Enayat purpose in visting Larry was
that he might find "new ways of viewing the matter that were more in
harmony with fundamental Baha'i beliefs". In other words, they were
trying to find a way for Larry to remain a Baha'i. When that didn't
work they sent him a letter which basically said he needed to figure
out whether or not he believed the Teachings and whether he wanted to
remain within the Baha'i community. As his NSA wrote:
"Should a person find that he can no longer accept the system of
belief Baha'u'llah teaches, for whatever reason, he cannot be
compelled by anyone else to do so or be prevented from making the
decision to renounce it - nor would any discredit be associated with
such a decision. What is not acceptable is to proclaim oneself a
believer but persistently behave in a way that blatantly rejects
fundamental teachings and risks undermining the unity of the
community."
Since Larry did not accept the Baha'i Teachings he chose to leave the
Faith. It is as simple as that.
warmest, Susan
