Dave Meurer writes about God knowing everything about us no matter where we
go and no matter what we do. He is there and knows the most minute details
about us.
May God bless,

You Can Run, But You Can't Hide
by Dave Meurer
If you're planning a vacation to Australia in the near future, I strongly
suggest you avoid booking a flight on the new Northrop Grumman Global
Hawk.
While the aircraft features a host of impressive state-of-the-art
features,
including the ability to fly nonstop from Los Angeles to Sydney without
refueling, the plane has crummy meal service. It also has no movies,
magazines, windows, seats, toilets, pilots, or even frequent flyer miles.
The Global Hawk is an unmanned aerial reconnaissance plane that flies
sensitive missions for the United States Air Force. With its massive 130
wing span and fuel-efficient engine it can stay airborne for 32 hours and
fly more than 12,000 miles at a stretch. So even if it did feature a few
first class seats, you would probably be kind of cranky at the end of the
flight. And what with the "no lavatory" situation, you'd need a bladder
the
size of a life raft.
I had the privilege of having a front row seat for the Global Hawk
"Rollout
Ceremony" in Palmdale, California in 2006. My boss is a Congressman, and
since the plane was going to be operated from an Air Force base in his
district, he was invited to congratulate the team of designers and
builders.
So I got to tag along and sit in the VIP section-while other real VIPs
tried
to figure out who I was. CIA agent? Defense Department official?
Bodyguard?
I was tempted to make furtive whispers into my watch, but decided against
it
(lest any real security people strike up a conversation with me, only to
discover that the most dangerous thing I've done in the last ten years is
replace a faulty electrical outlet.)
With a flourish of music and the dazzling flashes of a zillion strobe
lights, a massive curtain was dropped, and the audience of legislators,
Air
Force brass, re****ters, and Northrop Grumman employees applauded as the
newest spy plane was revealed.
It was waaaaay cool.
But the truly amazing thing about the Global Hawk isn't its incredible
range-or even the fact that it can prowl the air at a height of more than
60,000 feet. The really mind-boggling thing is that, from that outlandish
height, it can look down on an enemy sniper hiding behind a rock. And
provide a real-time video feed and exact coordinates to a fighter pilot or
squad of soldiers, who can then dispatch said enemy to the afterlife.
Because of a paperwork delay with my security clearance, I actually did
not
get to attend the separate technical briefing, in which the Air Force
explained the true capabilities of the Global Hawk. But a pilot of the now
out-of-commission SR-71 Blackbird (a spy plane that could jet across the
sky
at more than 2,000 miles per hour even though it was built in the 1960s)
told me that the cameras on his plane could read the date of a dime lying
on
the pavement. So you kind of get the drift. These planes can do
everything
but X-ray your spleen.
The concept of an ever-vigilant eye in the sky, able to track your every
move, makes people on the ground either very nervous or very reassured,
depending on whose side they're on. If you are an American soldier, the
Global Hawk is a very good friend. You want it looking out for you.
Thinking about capabilities of the Global Hawk, I couldn't help but ponder
the unequalled recon capabilities of God. Hebrews 4:13 says, "Nothing in
all
creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare
before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."
To those who oppose God, that disconcerting thought should be enough to
cause a hygienic impropriety that requires a change of clothes. But to
those
who live under the protection and love of God, His unblinking gaze can be
a
great source of comfort and peace. The God who is utterly committed to us
is
always watching over us. He's watching over our kids, our spouse, our
parents, our friends. Even when tough things come into our life, and even
if
we don't understand why He allows it, we have the assurance that nothing
takes Him by surprise.
Still, as adept as it is, not even the Global Hawk can count the hairs on
your head. But God monitors that microscopic level of detail (Luke 12:7).
And, as a reconnaissance vehicle, the Global Hawk excels at watching, but
is
completely unarmed. It can't drop a bomb. It can't fire a single bullet.
It
can't even give someone a surprise noogie. It can relay information, but
it
can't actively defend you on its own.
But the God who's watching your back has an unlimited arsenal, a massive
army of angels-and an ironclad resolve to bring you safely into his
Kingdom.
You can't get any more secure than that.
