Emil Sch=FCrer comments that Philo also relates a view of Sejanus (20
BCE-31 CE) who shared the proconsole with Caesar Tiberius until his
execution in 31 CE for the presumption of attempting to seize power.
He made great exertions in Rome to destroy the whole nation, and that
in Judaea, Pilate {ie., the name from the Latin pileatus, 'wearing the
pileus', which was the 'cap or badge of a manumitted {ie. to send from
one's hand or control a} slave', as indicating that he was a
'freedman,' or the descendant of one} under the enjoyed protection of
his illustrious patron--an influential and feared citizen of Rome,
ambitious soldier, friend and confidant to Caesar--caused great
commotion among the Jews over irreconcilable and mutually exclusive
matters of frequent concern: "These men {ie. Paul (small; little) and
Silas (three, or the third)}, being Jews, exceedingly trouble our city
{ie. Philippi (warlike; a lover of horses) and originally named
Crenides (small fountains)--the comparison is with Lydia (a standing
pool) as seller of purple from Thyatira (a perfume; sacrifice of
labor) [Revelation 2:18-29]}; and teach customs-ETHNOS which are not
lawful for us, being Romans, to receive or observe." [Acts 16:20-21]
"But to you I say, and to the rest in Thyatira, as many as do not have
this doctrine {ie. that woman Zezebel {chaste}, who calls herself a
prophetess, to teach and beguile my servants to commit ***ual
immorality and to eat things sacrificed to idols}, and who have not
known the depths of Satan, as they call them, I will put on you no
other burden.
But hold fast what you have till I come. And he who overcomes, and
keeps my works until the end-TELOS, to him I will give power over the
nations--'He shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the potter's
vessels shall be dashed to pieces' [Psalm 2:9; Acts 4:23-27]--as I
also have received from my Father; and I will give to him the morning
star {ie. There was a Chinese notion of Ta-ts'in (Roman Syria)
possessing the hsieh-chi-hsi as 'the moon****ne pearl' or 'jewel that
****nes at night'}." [Revelation 2:24-28]
In October 42 BCE the great battle between Octavian (declared
'Augustus' in 27 BCE as first of the Roman Emperors) and Antony the
avengers of Caesar, and Brutus and Cassius his murderers took place in
the vicinity of Philippi. Octavian and Antony were victors and later
enlarged the city, elevating it to the status of colony {Colonia Julia
Philippensis). Still later it was granted the ius italicum, which
meant that its citizens received a form of Roman citizen****p.
Conversely, after the death of Tiberius, Gaius (Caligula), who then
came to the throne (37-41 CE), behaved with the greatest arrogance to
all, and inflicted the most injury on the whole Jewish nation. What is
here said respecting Sejanus and Pilate cannot refer to some
occasional declarations in the books preserved to us. For these treat
only events pertaining to the time of Caligula.
The oppressions of Sejanus and Pontius Pilate (26-36 CE) must have,
according to the intimations of the later Church Historian Eusebius
(260-340 CE), been related separately, and before the events under
Caligula. From all that has been said the following must consequently
have been the arrangement of the whole of Philo's work. The initial
book contained, it may be presumed, a general introduction. And the
later related the oppressions in the reign of Tiberius, by Sejanus in
Rome and by Pilate in Judea. Among the former must undoubtedly be
placed the im****tant measure of 19 CE, by which all Jews were banished
from Rome under Tiberius due to as few as four individuals refusing to
perform military service--A changed circumstance to 161 BCE when
Maccabean Jewish ambassadors, made their first appearance in front of
the Roman Senate and received pledges of friend****p and protection.
This alliance further confirmed in 139 BCE with a great weight of
gold.

There can be little doubt that Roman Governor****p at the time was

The complaint against Pilate was possibily not made before Sejanus'
death in 31 CE. During the time of Pilate (26-36CE), Antipas {for all,
or against all}, together with his brothers, brought a successful
complaint against Pilate over the erection of an offensive votive
****eld in the palace at Jerusalem. And just as he represented Jewish
demands on this occasion, so--despite his heathen buildings at
Tiberius {the son of Tiber}--he dared not evade the claims of Judaism
entirely in other respects also. Here too, he was a true son of his
father. [Emil Sch=FCrer, The Literature of the Jewish People in the Time
of Jesus, Vol 1:343]
"If one repetively accumulates virtue, there is nothing that he cannot
conquer. As there is nothing that he cannot conquer, no one knows the
limits he can reach. [The Dao is infinite] As one knows his limits, he
can, accordingly, keep his state. [If one attempts to rule a state
while he is limted by constraints, this is not one who can keep a
state] If one maintains the mother of the state, he can, accordingly,
long endure. [That which keeps a state at peace is called its mother.
The 'repetitive accumulation of virtue' means nothing other than
carefully planning the roots first and only then tending to the branch
tips, for this enables him [the ruler] to live his life to the

"Virtue consists of attainment. Because this means constant attainment
without loss and benefit without harm, we use 'virtue' as the name for
it. Where does one attain virtue? One attains it from the Dao. By what
does one fulfill the Dao? One fulfills it by functioning out of
nothing. If one's functioning is out of nothing, no one will not be
upheld. Therefore, as far as the people are concerned, if one applies
nothing to them, not a single one will be disorderly, but, if one
applies something to them, they will lack the means to escape with
their lives. This is why, although Heaven and Earth are vast, they
have nothingness for heart/mind, and, although the sage sovereign is
great, his rule is based on emptiness: 'Neither against the law of the
Jews, nor against the temple, nor against Caesar have I offended in
anything at all.' [Acts 25:8].
Therefore I say that if one looks at it in terms of Return {ie.
'Return according to Wang Bi (226-249 CE) as such means 'to revert to
what is the original substance'. For the Judaeo-Christian Apostle
Paul, return means 'Concerning the resurrection of the dead I am being
judged by you this day.' [Acts 24:21]}, the heart/mind of Heaven and
Earth is seen. If we think of it in terms of the solstice {ie. other
than the wood-gathering festival occasioning at the time of the 21
June solstice, this is contrariwise to the Jewish Genesis perspective
of the Sabbath based Everlasting Covenant and 22nd Priestly Service

Equinoxes as the basis for hyponomic (in this case also agricultural
as livestock, barley, wine, oil, wood associated) aggregations of
people into communities exhibiting civility such as adelphos nomos},
the perfection of the former kings is witnessed. Therefore, if one is
able to extinguish his self-interest and nullify his personal
existence, no one within the four seas will fail to look at him, and
no one from near and far will fail to gravitate to him.
The root of action is found in no conscious effort and the mother of
action is found in the nameless of the Dao. If one rejects the roots
and discards the mother and instead turns to the child, although one's
merit might become great because of it, there surely will be instances
when benefit fails, and, although one might acquire a praiseworthy
reputation, falsehood too will surely arise." [(S: #301, E: #286),

Also during Claudius reign 41-54 CE when Aquila and Priscilla, as Jews
who were not Roman citizens had been expelled from Rome in 49 CE.
[Acts 18:2; Flavius Josephus (37 CE - circa 100 CE) Antiquities 18.3.5
81-84] The Roman author Suetonius (circa 69-140 CE) writing several
years after Josephus reference, briefly mentions that Claudius
expelled the Jews from the city because of "continuous disturbances at
the instigation of Chrestus".
Doubtlessly this is also the intent of the Apostle Paul's firebrand
Epistle to the Romans of circa 56-58 CE that he had expected to be
conveyed to Rome by Phoebe {****ning; pure} a sister, a servant-
DIAKONOS of the church-EKKLESIA in Cenchrea {millet; small pulse}:
"But I know that when I come to you, I shall come in the fullness of
the blessing of the Gospel of Christ. Now I beg you, brethren, through
the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you
strive together with me in your prayers to God for me, that I may be
delivered from those in Judea who do not believe, and that my service
for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, that I may come to you
with joy by the will of God, and may be refreshed together with
you." [Romans 15:29-32]
By the time of the Apostle Paul's 61 CE journey as prisoner to Rome,
no mention is made of this Epistle or of specific letters from Judea
concerning him: "Nor have the brethren who came re****ted or spoken any
evil of you. But we desire to hear from you what you think; for
concerning this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere.'
So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging,
to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God,
persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the
Prophets from morning till evening." [Acts 28:21-23]
It may therefore be viewed that Jesus of Nazareth as "...contrary-
APENANTI to the decrees-DOGMA of Caesar, saying-LEGO that there is
another-HETEROS king-BASILEIA, one Jesus." [Acts 17:7] in that they
further accused him of sedition-DIASTREPHO {to distort, turn aside to
oppose, plot against the saving purposes and plans of God; to turn
aside from the right path, to pervert, corrupt} against the ethnos of
the Jewish people, preventing-KOLUO {to hinder, prevent forbid; to
withhold a thing from anyone; to deny or refuse one a thing} the
payment of the tribute to Caesar [Luke 2:1-7], and of assuming the
title of Messiah-CHRISTOS and King-BASILEUS {foundation of power; a
sovereign (abstractly, relatively or figuratively) a king} [Luke
23:2], gives rise to the Gospel view of a religious and political
tension existing within the essential interpretation and understanding
of 'Other-HETEROS or Sameness-HOMOIS' associated with the Sefirot
(Number) of the Kabbalah as an autonomous cosmological paradigm known
as a religious way and political regime, and consideration on the
Autonomous and Sovereign Principle or the cosmic man.
"While the Pharisees {ie. within the contem****aneous Dead Sea Scrolls

thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? {
"Now David the son of Jesse {gift; oblation; one who is} was wise and
shone like the sun, a scribe and man of discernment, blameless in all
his ways before God and men. The LORD gave him a brilliant and
discerning spirit, so that he wrote: psalms, three thousand six
hundred; songs to sing before the altar accompanying the daily
perpetual burnt offering, for all the days of the year, three hundred
and sixty-four; for the Sabbath offerings, fifty-two songs; and for
the New Moon offerings, all the festival days, and the Day of
Atonement, thirty songs." [Apocryphal Psalms of David, Dead Sea Scroll
11Q5 Col. 27:2-8]
"All these he composed through prophecy given him by the Most
High." [Dead Sea Scroll 11Q5 Col. 27:11]
"And being let go, [Peter {a rock or stone} and John {the grace or

David have said, 'Why did the nations rage, and the people plot vain
things? The kings of the earth took their stand, and the rulers were

together." [Acts 4:23-27]
} If David then call him Lord, how is he his son? And no man was able
to answer him a word, neither durst any man from that day forth ask
him any more questions." [Matthew 22:35-46] (KJV )
Which saw as antithetical, the recognition of Imperial Roman Caesar
Augustus (44 BCE-14 CE) by the Anthropocentric Deification, Pontifex
Maximus {ie. that he was a son of a god but in reality a dictator as
malevolent benefactor and the "revered one" (Augustus) who's will
(numen) or essence (genius) as the eternal-AIDIOS male personification
of miraculous power-DUNAMIS and Godhead-THEIOTES. [Romans 1:19-23]}
was the central unequivocal tenet of Roman State Religion of the time.
This is particularly evident in the reality that the term 'path' [Gk.
HODOS & Heb. DEREK: Daleth (#4) Resh (#200) Final Kaf (#500) =3D #504 %
81 =3D #18] was readily understood as relating to a form of governance
and Divine Providence but fails to find any empathy with Philo of
Alexandria (20 BCE-50 CE) who may be regarded as a political and
theological propagandist on behalf of Judaism of later antiquity, or
Josephus (37-100 CE) as an historical revisionist. [TDNT =A9 1967, 1995
edition V:65]
The expression equivalently characterizes the theology of the Old
Testament [Isaiah 59:1-8], John the Baptist [Luke 1:67-80] and the
Apostle Paul's [Romans 3:9-20] later usage of it. Thus it raises the
possibility given the compatibility of the Gospel idioms as the Way
{Gk. HODOS & Heb. DEREK} with the later developments within Chinese
Philosophy as a transition from the 64 Hexagram structure comprising
dual 8 trigrams into 81 elements occurred during the Han dynasty (206
BCE - 220 CE) and therefore the technique conveyed by the Tao (the
way) Te (of virtue) Ching (and causality) originating with Lao Tzu in
the 6th century BCE is perhaps older than its articulation with the
'Canon of Supreme Mystery' (T'ai Hsuan Ching) by Yang Hsiung (53 BCE -
18 CE) which first appeared in draft form around 4 BCE.
These 81 tetragrams were associated to a hierarchical nest of
divisions that is at once a geographic, sociopolitical and
anthropocentric realm implemented during the Han period (206 BCE - 220
CE). It is this paradigm that also provided a regulated mechanism as
the conceptual zone and the basis for uniformity within the "Daily
Chronicles".
In that the 81 tetragrams x 4.5 =3D 364 1/2 days of Yang's basic
structure with two additional Appraisals used solely for intercalation
as the difference of 3/4 of a day as the adjustment to 365 1/4 days of
the solar year. Thus distinct from any consideration of intercalation
of 2 additional appraisals, the foundational calendar provides a
worldview mechanism as a granularity of 9 times 1/2 day appraisals. As
such, it is the means for achieving a process of cosmological
divination and an interesting phenomenon--annual horologue as
dialectical prose. In that it gives a total of 729 designations for
the yearly cycle which is 364 + 365 =3D 9 x 81 =3D 729 (+ 2 intercalation
appraisals).
A worthy note is Hirth's Silk Road commentary as Introduction, to the
East Asian History Sourcebook: Chinese Accounts of Rome, Byzantium and
the Middle East, c. 91 BCE - 1643 CE:
"It is well known that Zhongguo [China] is fortunate enough to possess
a series of historical works comparing most favorably, in some of its
parts, with the historical literature of any nation in the West. Since
the Han, each dynasty has had its own history, compiled from its court
chronicles, or Jih-li, during the succeeding reigns. The Jih-li (Daily
Chronicles) must be considered the prime source of all the information
contained in these histories. Whether these latter were impartial in
the treatment of historical characters, whether they did not "turn
black into white, or right into wrong", would, of course, depend
greatly on the entries made in the Jih-li; but also upon the
neutrality of the historian himself. If the assumption could be
justified that a new dynasty, having by conquest gained the
ascendency, regarded the succumbing dynasty as the enemy of its cause,
we might perhaps expect but scant justice from those who had power
over both the Chronicles and the compilers. There is, however, no
ground for this suspicion when a lifetime has elapsed between the
period described and that during which the history was written." [cf:
Copyright Silk Road Seattle web site]
The Jih-li, as literally "Daily Chronicles", as annual horologue and
dialectical prose has functional equivalence to the Yahad Dead Sea
Scroll Community's metathetic Natural Law Jurisprudence and
