I take it that the meaning of the above is:-
'Has the acceptance of the Christian faith or any other religious
belief led to a decline of the individual's right to be self-
governing (self-determining and independent), subject only to one's
own laws (ideas and motivations)?

'Mental Illness' is a term used by Medical/Psychiatric professionals
for attitudes and emotions they have been trained to treat by secular
means rather than by Christian or other religious means.
The problem in the past has been that too often (and I think I am
using that phrase advisedly) that medical reasons for the attitudes
and emotions - brain injuries and bio-chemical imbalances to the brain
- were not diagnosed. Medications, Electro Convulsive Shock Treatments
and other means were used with adverse effects to some patients.
Possibly the full statistics can never be known.
In a state of debilitated health due to Anaemia and Rheumatic Fever -
named by Homopathic professionals as Neurasthenia - and teaching in
difficult appointments with certain physical reactions I experienced
those treatments with further complications.
In St Andrew's Anglican Cathedral Healing Ministry I prayed that cures
and preventitive methods would be found and from this month in 1975 I
became the advocate of reform of the treatments mentioned above and
wherever possible their abolition with Government authorities.
Through prayer for endurance while healing and keeping myself occupied
in family and community activites it has not been necessary for me to
attend with a Psychiatrist since that time. I do not recommend that
way for everyone.
What I would emphasise is that Christian prayer is vital both for one
oneself and, if applicable, for the therapist a person is consulting.
Through the Internet I have found some websites of Psychologists/
Psychiatrists who are combining their professional knowledge with the
Christian faith in their counselling work. Just enter into Search the
phrase 'Christian Psychologists and Psychiatrists' or discuss with
your own General Practitioner.
The Australian Institute of Mental Health has stated from 2006 that
'physical health and happiness' will bring about good Mental Health.
In some instances, in older years, that may not be possible and
'acceptance and courage and faith in God Almighty' are the better
attitudes.
Christian faith at times will mean taking initiatives as God reveals
them to us that are contrary to the accepted means available in a
society.
In that sense Christian identity does not cause social degeneration
(decline, a worsening of physical, mental or moral qualities).
It leads to advancement of knowledge and the betterment, not only of
one's own life, but more im****tantly, the lives of other persons in
their own daily lives.
