There's a subtlety here in Paul: he does talk about the 'wrath of God' 
(Romans 1, 2 Thessalonians 1) - which Christians have generally 
understood as somewhat synonymous with the idea of hell.

And 'Sheol' in late pre-Christian Judaism? You've got Daniel 12:2 - some 
headed for 'everlasting life' others for 'everlasting shame'...
