JUDGEMENT 2
Ex21:7:
A WOMAN IS TO BE TREATED DIFFERENTLY FROM A MAN:
And if a man sell his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not go
out as the menservants do. (8) If she please not her master, who hath
betrothed her to himself, then shall he let her be redeemed: to sell
her unto a strange nation he shall have no power, seeing he hath dealt
deceitfully with her. (9) And if he have betrothed her unto his son,
he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters. (10) If he take
him another wife; her food, her raiment, and her duty of marriage,
shall he not diminish. (11)And if he do not these three unto her, then
shall she go out free without money.
My comments: This is the second judgment of God`s law given to Moses
at Mount Sinai.
This judgement also shows that a female servant did not
automatically go out from service in the 6th year (or before) as the
menservants did.
They would stay if the following two events were in force:
1. If she had married her master. In this case she would only leave
if her master was angry with her over some reason for divorce. In
this case, someone could redeem her - buy her back again - as Hosea
did with Gomer - and as God redeemed Israel from her =93marriage=94 to the
abusive Baal.
2. If she had married the master`s son. In this case, the master was
to treat her as a daughter.
Even a slave woman has a God-given right to three things: good food,
good clothing and a good husband.
