Pentecost is one of God`s festivals. There are 7 in the year and they
are all itemised in Leviticus 23. There are 3 main festivals in the
year - completely in touch with reality because they occur at times
that are arguably when nature is at its most beautiful. A "feast" is
commanded along with a holiday if you have enough funds.
Passover and the 7 days of Unleavened Bread occur in the springtime.
50 days after the first work day following the first annual sabbath in
the Days of ULB we arrive at the Day of Pentecost. In the autumn or
"fall" we have the "end-time" festivals - Day of Trumpets, Day of
Atonement, Feast of Tabernacles and Last Great Day.
In the 2nd Century, the bishop of Rome changed the spring festivals to
"Easter" and made it always occur on "Easter Sunday". Then (wrongly)
he counted 50 days from there to get to "Whit Sunday" - again on a
Sunday and never exactly on the Day of Pentecost (which is never on a
Sunday).
The Fall festivals are mainly kept nowadays in September or October by
the Churches of God (both "Living" and "United" keep them) and by the
Jews who begin their year on "Rosh Hashana", followed 10 days later by
"Yom Kippur", and 5 days later by "Sukkoth" meaning "booths" or
"tem****ary dwellings."
