Hi,
I'm not santero (Buddhist, actually), but I've kinda fallen in love
with Cuban music and I'm trying to learn more about it, and that means
learning about Santeria (and Palo and Abakua', but that's beyond the
scope of my question).
Celina Ganzalez wrote a song called "San Lazero", i.e. Babaluaye. I'm
hopeless when it comes to Lu***i'. If someone would be kind enough to
explain a something for me, I'd be grateful.
The word "ekua" appears in the song frequently. As an example,
Eh,eh ekua
Babalu' aye' ekua
Ekua papa ekua
Babalu' aye' ekua
Ekua viejo ekua
Babalu' aye' ekua
Ekua papa ekua
Babalu' aye' ekua
I've been digging around, but I can't find anything that would tell me
what "ekua" means. I tried a Yoruba dictionary, but it said ekua =
testiculos, which just made me more confused.
Thanks for any help,
Bob
