The thought occurs to me that once I had settled into my dorm, made a
few friends who knew more about unix than I had, and discovered pico and
trn sometime this week 10 years ago. (It was a couple of months before
I got trn to *use* pico, before which time I was stuck with the
nightmare that is vi.)
The Greencard spam hit later that year, I think, or early next year-- I
started out in alt.alien.visitors (because it's at the top of the list,
duh) and didn't get trolled into ark (thanks again, Marie) until late
winter -- I don't remember the date, because it was becoming apparent at
the time that September 1993 showed no signs of abating as USENET was
flooded with new contributors from aol.com, people who didn't realize
that AOL's busted software was posting their posts 8 times, or it most
cases that they weren't actually reading AOL users, they weren't being
"added to a list," and we weren't going to do what they said just
because they were paying $19.99 a month to be mislead about what they
were using.
Okay then. Just thought I'd mention it. Remind me in 4 months that my
ark anniversary is coming and I should dig up the post that tells me
when it is.
