Gateway used to have good customer service, and then they ****pped their
whole CS department to India and forced regular people with names like
Bob and Susan to speak English with varying levels of comprehension.
This is good for America because now Americans are making less money but
where there's a much much lower cost of living, so they get money to
send home to their relatives in the midwest, where there's economic
depression because even their most neutrally-accented young people can't
get jobs talking on the phone, at least outside of election years where
there's push-polling work.
Hmm. My last three computers, all terrific and all what I ordered, were
from Midwest Micro, which, the week of my last purchase (and something
like 2 years and a month ago this week) they were bought up by or
changed into Global Computer, which has branded their line "Systemax,"
but with whom I haven't had much contact, just yet. In the cases of the
first 2 computers, the monitor that came with the PC would break within
a couple of years (power-supply usually), and in both cases, getting
them replaced under warranty was simple, the only complication relating
to how one who does not have access to a car can trans****t a monitor in
its box to the proper ****pping point.
But as far as my dealings with Global Computer, it was all good, and I
got a great computer that had no small amount of OEM customization, and
has survived a goodly amount of additional hardware (drives, PCI and AGP
cards-- nothing touching the mobo, which I haven't needed to alter yet).
It works great, even in hot weather (such as we have any such thing
here). Tehy am teh r0Xorz.
