Oh forcryinoutloud, will you stop crouching while on lifts! You won't
get stuck. It's a well-known issue, and Valve must've known about it,
so they made it so whenever you're on a lift, you won't be attacked--
the single exception is the 45-degree descent near the beginning of the
game. There's nothing up there waiting for you, so stand up.
And remove the CD-- I don't know when, but sometime years ago, they
released no-CD code in a patch, because hey, they came is five years
old, they aren't making any more money on it. As long as you don't want
the CD music, pull that sucker out.

Yes, as long as you don't pay full price (which was $30, I think). It
takes place in the Half-Life game, as far as weapons and enemies. It
was supposed to be an extra for the PS2 version of HL (which was
cancelled), so it's short, like 6-8 hours long. It has at least one
irritating jumping puzzle (with a novel setup), but no really memorable
puzzles your first encounter with the tentacles in HL, or the Pitworm in
OpFor. It has, however, the High-Definition pack.

How so?

Jumping puzzles, of course. And that interminable level in the original
HL, named Residue Processing, where you had all of the conveyor belts,
agh! But that led you to the bee gun, before long, so it was worth it.

Same here, though I try to stick to just reading the parts I've already
played, to see if I could do it better. Puzzles I could handle,
usually, but sometimes I wouldn't see how to progress in a level because
I couldn't seem to catch a ladder at the end of a jump, or I didn't see
the exit.

GET A RED FACTION! Or wait until HL 2, which should have this
functionality in some places, at least.

I'm channelling SMTIRCAHIAGEHLT here when I recommend Neil Manke's
incredible "They Hunger" trilogy, as well as his previous SP Mod "USS
Darkstar." TH is a very good and not a little scary survival horror
game, where you get stuck in a '60s zombie movie.

ETC and ETC2 were designed by DaveJ, the same guy who did the most
popular CS map by a longshot, de_dust, as well as de_dust2, de_cbble,
de_castle (which showed up in a later beta, but didn't go over too
well-- it still felt like dust but too big) and Casbah, the excellent
TFC map.

If bandwidth is cheep to you, be sure to download the 600MB E3 movie of
Half-Life 2 from fileplanet.com -- it's worth it, no question. It's
going to be a good September when this new game comes out.
