Tower of Babel confusions

I still have a problem with the story...I assume after God created Adam and

Eve and they had Cain and Able, and after Cain killed Able and went to Nod

all those peoples spoke the same language....so why was it ok then but not

Ok when God had a hissy fit and destroyed the Tower because all the
peoples 
could understand each other?

Sounds to me like there was something else that gave God heartburn and it 
had nothing to do with the language being spoken.
