I was there and nothing of the sort was going on.
Then again, if you were one of those publishers in the big cities who
wanted
a free ticket to paradise, then you likely put words in the mouths of the
governing body.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, as they say. The governing body, if they
could do it all over again, would likely emphasize that 1975 was simply a
historical year based on their own chronology. They wouldn't have said
anything like 'wouldn't it be nice if this historical year coincided with
the end of this system of things' if they knew some weaker JWs would take
those words, and run!
As you know from my posts, I don't defend the governing body or
Watchtower.
I'm no 'apologist.' I simply call it as I see it, and having BEEN THERE
MYSELF, I happen to know the Watchtower wasn't teaching that 1975 would
herald in the new system. They simply thought it would be nice if that
occurred, but recognized that only God knows when the end will come,
nobody
else, not even Jesus.
