Hadn't put two and two together about that.  Four testicles and an
entirely new outlook on life -- I imagine that's a real possibility!

The more testosterone the better for a manly and proactive philosophy.
Catch those elves and make them turn the wheels of the perpetual
motion machine.  No silly speculation, just action!

even know that they are not hiding behind every rock.

But legend is a touchy thing.  Certainly you can't believe _everything
legend tells you, since often legends are mutually incompatible.

Personally I can see my way clear to using legend as a source of
suggestions.

But when you pull up every rock you can find and still see no elves,
then you have to wonder.  Is it because there are no elves or is it
because the elves are to quick to be caught?

And if I take it seriously that it might be because the elves are too
quick -- it _must be since legend tells me that there _are elves, then
I am wide open to believing any damn thing anybody might feel like
claiming.  Any claim can be logically defended, as long as you allow
that kind of explanation.

The world is flat.  But people have actually been into space and seen
the round earth.  No, the elves jumped into their brains and made them
see a round earth, because the elves are interested in seeing humans
taking a rational view of things.  That's their best way of going
undetected.

Etc.

In the end, things that take too much explanation have to be
provisionally discarded.  If only because we can't keep track of so
many possible odd explanations.  But really because the world
consistently turns out not to be all that deceptive.

Or if it is all that deceptive then it can continue to fool us for a
long while as we go about our business.
