Actually the Bible nowhere says that Jesus ever followed Joseph's trade.

that what we have is inaccurate?

Because God likes open-minded questioning folks. And whatever the cae, 
those instructions have worked for billions of people for thousands of 
years, so they can't be doing all that badly.
