For fear of being exposed for believing in the wrong thing all their
lives. A
religious person once told me, "Atheism has done nothing but sit on the
sidelines of history", and I told him you mean Atheism has sat on the
sidelines
of history instead of looking for a grand and glorious name for itself
like
egotistical religion does? You mean sit on the sidelines of history
instead of
taking part in the "Holy" wars and religious cleansings like religion
still
does? You mean sit on the sidelines of history instead of repressing
science and
reason and logic like religion still does? Atheism does not falsely claim
to
have all the answers like religion pretends it does. Atheism doesn't
falsely
pretend to save the world like religion has repeatedly failed to do. There
are
no such things as multimillion dollar Atheist cathedrals or Atheist
televangelists making $12,000+ a month off of your donations or is
experiencing
an epidemic of Atheist child molesters. If only religion would have sat on
the
sidelines of history as Atheists have done, then the world would have been
a
much better place to live in for the last 2,000 years. As a Christian once
told
me, "I think that Psalm 14:1 addresses this issue rather well, 'The fool
has
said in his heart, 'There is no God''", to which I replied, "Do you
consider
yourself the fool or the wiseman?".

    "The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be
a
    fool" (AS YOU LIKE IT, by Shakespeare)

Since the wise man knows himself to be a fool, would it not then be the
wise man
who would actually say in his heart, 'There is no God'?
