When I read the subject line "On differences" I already suspected it
to mean "on differences of opinion". However most people have no
difference of opinion upon the fact that it is not about opinion at
all. Many (yes many) agree on the fact that it is just about "me"
being right and all the "others" being wrong.
The only difference being that they have a different "me" in mind.
I am no exception to the rule. Of course I think I am right!
If I thought I wasn't I would change my opinion, whereafter -
nescessarily - I would think I was right again:-)
A lot of the problems would cease to exist if people only would
philosophically adept the insights of Einstein and Heissenberg.
Einstein discovered that all observations by all observers are qually
valid. Even if they seem to contradict each other. He found out the
Lorenz transformation would solve that problem. (it really IS
different when you see it from the other point of view)
Thus we should realize that truth depends on your point of view and is
not the property of any one viewpoint in particular.
Absolute thruth therefor is unavailable.
Heissenberg found out that in order to gain knowledge of anything we
must make an observation, but an observation is not mere
contemplation. In fact any physical observation changes reality, so
that we cannot merely observe but have to become part of the
observation (I see the effect of a foton strinking MY retina)
Objective truth therefor is unavailable.
However this realization only leads to more clashes on the Newsgroup.
A-theism is by it's name calling for theism to react. And a theist
always claims there a special viewpoint more valid than any other
(that of God) and they claim there is absolute truth (and God has it).
So even those of us, who realize that there is no absolute and
objective truth get contstantly into clashes which those who do :-(
Not being able to miraculously chance reality, I fear we have to live
with that.
