Rephrased for clarity, they think we lack belief in something which they
see as being both real and self-evident, sort of like not believing in the
moon.
Which is beyond bizarre. If it were so self-evident, we might *disagree*
with it, but we'd certainly be able to *see* it. Instead we're told
things like "You just don't want to see" and the like.
No, it's not that we don't _want_ to see, it's simply that we _don't_ see,
despite repeated requests of the faithful to show us something. They
either can't - in which case, why _they_ believe is somewhat less than
clear, or they _won't_, in which case - by their beliefs, generally -
they're actually aiding in our supposed descent to damnation. Not very
neighbourly of them, wot?

Exactly. How can you _not_ believe? After all, look at the flowers -
positive proof that the fairies came and arranged them.

Some, perhaps, but by and large that's about it: to them, the content of
the belief is somehow "real", but only if it's _their_ belief. Someone
else's, well, that's just silly superstition or some such. "Our"
religion, though, that's different.
Except it ain't.
