The mother of a 12-year-old boy was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of
violently beating her son and chaining him in a bathroom, and the boy's
father was arrested for doing nothing to stop the attacks, according to
Orange County sheriff's deputies.

Local 6 News is not identifying the boy's parents.

According to Orange County sheriff investigators, the boy had numerous
marks
on his back, face, abdomen and head but denied that he was physically
abused
and said he got them while swimming in a river.

Investigators said the boy had a multitude of thick, irregular linear- and
loop-shaped scars over most of his body.

After several interviews, officials said the boy confessed that his mother
beat him with belts, cords, cans and glass bottles and struck him on the
head with a knife. He said his mother also chased him with scissors and
chained him in a bathroom and beat him with a metal pipe, according to
investigators.

Orange County sheriff's deputies said the father was usually at work when
the abuse occurred, but he had witnessed some of the beatings and never
took
his son to a medical facility for the injuries.
