According to the New Testament of the New American
Bible translated from the original Greek by the Catholic
Biblical Association of America, this should read:
John 3:3 Everyone who has this hope based on him
keeps himself pure, as he is pure.
The New Revised Standard Version reads:
John 3:3 Jesus answered him, "Very truly, I tell you,
no one can see the kingdom of God
without being born from above."
No mention of atheists in either quote, though they
could be included with everyone else who wasn't
Christian at the time. The fact is, Christians who
wrote the bible stories considered anyone who wasn't
a Christian to be an atheist, even if they followed
another religion. The same with John 14:6-10.
