     Please don't confuse the tasteless, anti-Semitic posts the
misnamed "Gnostic" was making with the religious and
philosophical movement called gnosticism.  Yeah, I take it very
seriously, and I'm not entirely alone.  Let's be sure we're
talking about the same thing.  Gnosticism distinguishes between
God and the Creator of this botched world, reduced from 
supreme deity to inferior demiurge, and takes a correspondingly
critical view of the Creation, variously described as a 
prison, exile, or labyrinth.  Major gnostic schools include the
Sethians, Marcionites, Naasenes, and Valentinians; also the
Manichaeans (though they're sometimes grouped separately).  I'd
add other folks later in history with the same basic 
perspective (the Cathars and Bogomils, frex), but I realize I'm
using the word more loosely.
