Contemplating Yugas

by Etznab <etznab@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Apr 26, 2008 at 01:17 PM

One of the names for the first of the four Yugas
is Satya. The following link could be used to look
at definitions for both "satya" and "yuga".

http://webapps.uni-koeln.de/cgi-bin/tamil/recherche

Is it possible these four do not necessarily pertain
to the physical universe, but they might have once -
at one time in history - referred to planes? Physical
(& Kali Yuga) being the last, or lowest?

Not saying I can verify this as yet. Contemplating
the possibility though. Here is why.

Physical creation, it would seem, stems from the
subtler planes of matter. And it's not too impractical
to assume that life begins (began) on a higher level
before it descends (descended) to a relatively lower
vibration. [should have used quotation marks round
several of those words]

Something else. Definitions for "satya" & "yuga"
on the Sanskrit dictionary link that I gave. And the
definition for "SAT" in the Eckankar dictionary:

SAT - "Truth; reality; existence; that which is not SAT
does not really exist; fundamental idea of truth is exist-
ence; the untrue does not exist, the true does."

The key word here, IMO, is existence. The word "sat"
could apply to the idea of "permanent" existence. That
which is never destroyed - like the highest plane(s). It's
also interesting to look at words in Eckankar dictionary
preceded by "SAT", IMO. Yuga appears to be related to
the idea of "a yoke" (according to the definitions I have
seen). The idea of "to join", or become "linked" to.

To consider the higher planes according to the lower
plane time-space parameters might serve to limit the
possible realization of them, IMO.

If the beginning "begins" (or is) with Satya Yuga &
these "ages" correspond to planes, that would make
the Silver Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age correspond
with the Mental, Astral and Physical planes.

Is this how creation works? Especially when every-
thing manifest is made manifest by the Word of God?
Physical forms for physical creators come first in the
form of imagination, or ideas. It seems to sup****t the
paradigm of creation on subtle planes having relation
to the creations on lower ones. [should have used
quotation marks here, too]

Part of the problem with investigating this could, in
some respects, have to do with the limitation of words.
Because all of these "planes", "yugas", whatever, are
probably existing as a whole. One that is not always
limited by "lower" perspectives.

Is it just a matter of what one is "yoked" with that
determines one's perceptual environment? Afterall,
the physical universe does not always have to "be"
negative in the experience of every individual. A lot
of times even, IMO, it is not.

Science and religion are still contemplating the
beginnings of life and from where it all originates.
Is this relative only, because the "beginning" has
to be linked to individual perception? Or, in other
words, it can only be realized by personal exper-
ience? And that what one person comes to know
is not the same as what every-body else knows?

To have everything in all the yugas destroyed
and recreated over and over - if you believe this
explanation according to some traditions - well,
isn't it what is already happening with states of
consciousness for every observer?

I thought it was interesting to contemplate the
yugas as if they were planes of consciousness,
instead of ages of time. It seemed to answer a
lot of questions, IMO.
