I've recently read through some of the text at http://www.deism.com.
It is
very interesting, but I'm not sure if I should consider myself a Deist. I
am quite fascinated by Deists, however. Until now, I thought the closest
thing to what I believe is agnostisism. But I've never been comforable
with
this. I can't accept that reason fails when it comes to the question of
whether or not there is a God, and therefore the question should be
abandoned.
I believe that I am more than the sum of atoms in my body, and it follows
that the universe itself is more than just matter and energy. Like Deists,
I
believe God is revealed in nature and its laws. However, I do not believe
that God created the universe. I think this may be opposing to what
Deists
believe. I believe that God appeared with the physical universe at the
beginning of time. God may exist separately from the physical universe,
or
the universe may exist within God. God is not just matter or energy, but
something else that is either beyond human perception, or is only
partially
perceived. God may be the necessary spark that imbues life into physical
organisms and/or a spiritual ingredient required for self awareness.
Is this similar to what Deists believe?
