Hello,
You are misinterpreting those verses. You want to follow your own
quote at the bottom, "It is far better to grasp the Universe as it
really is than to persist in delusion". Thus if you want to perceive
Jesus as a "jerk", you are going to, but it will not be the truth "as
it really is".
If you want to know the truth of those verses, here is what they mean:
Why would Jesus say such a thing when he also says at Mt 19:19 to
honor your father and mother and to love our neighbor and to love
ourself? Was he contradicting himself?
This was not the first time in the Bible when family members turned on
other family members because of what was true and righteous. Jesus
constantly quoted scripture and was well aware of this statement by
the prophet Micah at Mic 7:5,6,
"5. Trust ye not in a friend, put ye not confidence in a guide: keep
the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.
6. For the son dishonoureth the father, the daughter riseth up
against her mother, the daughter in law against her mother in law; a
man's enemies are the men of his own house." (KJV)
Sound familiar? Jesus was actually quoting or alluding to Micah's
words when he said that the same conditions would prevail in his time
that occurred in Micah's time.
When Jesus presented the truth to all people, including family
members, some would turn against their own family members because of
their hatred for Jesus' teachings. The culprits are those family
members, not Jesus. He was only prophetically showing how some people
would react to the truths of God's word.
Now you know the real meaning of those words.
