If this is a case of 'scripture interprets scripture' I'm not
impressed.

> The wise man builds his house upon the Rock (truth)

Jesus said this at the end of His Sermon on the Mount (Mat 7 end). If
anything, the 'truth' as secure foundation is the sermon He has just
delivered. I don't think He had 'tradition' in view.

That Sermon says nothing about Peter, and it's only in chapter 15 that
traditions (as in wa****ng hands) gets a mention.

I don't think the passage says that.

Are you questioning His promise, here that "on this rock I will build
my church"?

Thanks for that.

OK

For the mo, I still think it's Peter himself that is the rock, after
all that's how the passage reads. Most commentaries and cross-
reference Bibles point to Isa 51:1-2 and Eph 2:20, an some folk pick
up 1Pet2.

I've come across an interesting observation that Peter is the third
and final person who have been renamed by God, Abraham, Israel, and
now Peter himself.

Abraham was promised to be the father of a multitude. God promised
Israel that God's people would spring from. Now, Peter is promised
that His ecclesia (congregation or community) will be built upon him.

Cheers.
