High Resolution Bible Maps

by mark@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Feb 5, 2005 at 10:12 PM

I thought you would all be very interested in this. For a long I have
tried to find fantastic maps of Israel to use in my bible study. I
searched high and low and obtained a copy of the High Resolution Images
that came as a seperate unclock with the 'old' NET Bible CD. These
high resolution maps are the best I have EVER seen..... anyway to cut
a long story short.....

.......I have just spoken to Richard Cleave who is the Managing Director
or ROHR Productions (www.rohrproductions.com) [Website is still being
constructed].

Richard is the man who produced the beautiful maps in the back of NET
Bible, as well as the high resolution maps you were able to unlock with
the old NET bible CD's. He has spent over 40 years mapping Israel and
has produced the most amazing maps I have ever seen (I managed to get
copies of the High Resolution Maps on the NET Bible CD - I thought
these were amazing - Richard explained to me that these are not High
Resolution compared to what they have produced now, and the level of
detail they are continuing to produce).

As well as the maps ROHR have also produced a programme in which you
can fly over the whole of Israel and see the topography in 3-D (Richard
told me that there are further updates in the pipeline to increase the
details so that you will be able to see even the trees as you fly
over....wow...in the next few months the 3-D animation software will be
broken down into regions of Israel - as the details gets clearer so the
size gets bigger).

Bible.net (the producers of the NET Bible) are no longer producing
these maps as part of the NET Bible and orders are now being taken from
ROHR Productions direct.

I have just placed my order and will let you know more info once I
receive the items. I have included a bit more info below about

Reviews of Holy Land CD

If you cannot visit the Holy Land, there is no better way to "feel"
its geography than this marvellous CD with its maps and photographs.
Dr. Richard Cleave, an independent scholar and managing director of
Røhr Productions, Ltd., has been working for years to produce this
program (he also produced the Student Map Manual). The CD lets you
"fly" at any elevation within the borders of modern Israel (everything
beyond is black), based on digitally reproduced satellite photographs.
The "plane" can't crash (this is a terrain recognition program, not a
flying program), and you can turn labels on geo-political features on
and off, or use them to view photographs (which are also in the second
volume). For example, I "flew" to Mount Tabor across the Plain of
Jezreel at an elevation of 50 metres, which immediately revealed
Barak's strategy against an overwhelming chariot force. The
accompanying "satellite atlases" are based on satellite photographs,
with maps that carefully show the angle and direction of the picture,
as well as crystal-clear photographs from Dr. Cleave's personal
archive. This would a fabulous tool for anyone studying biblical
history, of whatever period. I can guarantee that this is Israel as
you have never seen it-even if you have been there! Most highly
recommended.

The latest release of the CD is fantastic! Two things have struck me
as particularly helpful. I really like the hi-res sites. That's a
whole new feature that wasn't previously included, of course, and I
look forward to using it more. The other thing that struck me about
the new CD is the much improved maneuverability of the flying. It
seems to fly more quickly (less time loading and more responsive) and
the control with the new buttons is really nice. It flies more
intuitively now and is easier to manipulate. I also like the ability
to so easily toggle things like roads and site and
region names. Congratulations on a job well done! This continues to
be unquestionably the top software item for introducing students to the
geography and archaeology of Israel.

Well that's my dissertation done. I thought you all might be
interested in this...I'm just placing my order...
