Alexandria Patriarch in South Africa
Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa Theodoros II, who is paying an
official visit to South Africa, celebrated on Sunday together with
the ethnic Greek community the 100th anniversary of the community's
founding in Johannesburg, and the 80-year anniversary of the
establishment of the foundation of the local Metropolis.
A religious service was held at Aghios (St.) Constantine Cathedral,
the first Greek Orthodox Church founded in the South African metropolis.
During his address at a reception in his honor, the Patriarch pointed
at the major im****tance of expatriates' struggle to preserve their
heritage, considering the fact they live thousand of miles away from
their homeland.
