The Mormon church is scheduled to defend itself from allegations
related to sex abuse in a civil trial next month in Sioux Falls.
Ferris Joseph said he was living in Sioux Falls in the late 1960s when
he was sexually abused by Robert Lewis White, a volunteer missionary
with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He filed the
lawsuit in 2006, two years after he said he recovered the memories.
The lawsuit claims the church is at fault for allowing the alleged
abuse to happen.
The church said in a written statement that there are no records of
White doing anything sexually inappropriate until Joseph reported the
memories in 2004.
The trial is set to begin Feb. 25 at the federal courthouse in Sioux
Falls.
The case is on track for a trial after a pretrial hearing was held on
Monday. Lawyers expect they will need five days to try it, according
to court records.
