November 24 Going downhill seems to be a human characteristic. With many it happens like this: when affliction comes to them--often through sickness or misfortune--it is a blow to their pride. If you no longer have anything to be proud about you take stock and realize that you will have to start over again. Thus one learns humility. A proud person is one who thinks whatever he does is bound to be right, until he falls flat on his face. Therefore be humble and watch your step! In order to be watchful you need to keep God's word in view, because that embodies all you need to know; you cannot go by human standards--they are not important! What God's word teaches you is more important than all worldly wisdom.
