Humanity indeed has its history. We can learn it—and we also can learn much
from it. But this is not the history that truly brings joy to our hearts.
The joy of human history is not so great that we would not gladly give it
up. But there is also a history made up of experiences which are not
confined to man himself but which are informed by something of the divine.
That which is human must be touched by the divine.
