As long as it depends upon the perceptions merely of the eyes of reason,
that understanding which is represented by research into the advent of
Christ shall stand opposed to Christ’s life in the will of God. So many
people write “lives of Jesus” and seek to establish grounds for “the
historical appearance of Christ”; and then they despair over the fact that
we have such scant records in this regard. Neither the Gospel accounts nor
the works of other authors of the time serve to satisfy the lust for the
confirmation of this human history of Jesus.
