October 18
When I said, "Die, that Jesus may live," I simply
wanted to say, "Since all flesh is like grass, let
go of everything so that Jesus alone lives! Give
up the flesh--all that is outwardly human and
trivial--and you will live. That is, Jesus, the Word
of God, will come to life in you." It is really a
small matter for you to have to give it all up, but
it must be done decisively. If you center on your
thoughts and worldly things, and if this or that
plagues you, it looks as though you are one of
the flowers that fade, and surely you are not!
Just let go of it all, and do not put so much
importance on the things that pass, even though
you are still placed in the midst of them.
Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt, from
You Belong to God, Man, a Word of God.
