October 14
We could well imagine that 1800 years after
Christ's coming the last vestiges of Satan's
power would have disappeared. But how very
different it has been till now! Why? I can only
imagine that in short order people ceased to
have faith. For victory is promised to those who
have faith, and Jesus' words are surely true!
Faith must have been lacking, and must still be
lacking. Otherwise Satan's mortal wound would
not have healed. Ah, when faith is lacking it is
no wonder things are as they are. Hence the
enslavement of people, as we see all around us
in a thousand ways: the boundless depravity of
so many, the shocking ignorance and lack of
desire to know what there is to believe, and a
contempt for everything even before knowing
anything about it. Hence demoralization,
unscrupulousness, and the unspeakable
number of calamities that erode and undermine
the whole world. In their cowardice, people have
allowed these powers full rein without resisting
them in faith, and countless numbers have far
more respect for the devil's powers than for truly
divine powers.
Yet should it remain like this? Is Christ's victory
to be in vain? Shall we not take heart once more?
The time will also surely come when "the people
who know their God shall stand firm and take
action" (Daniel 11:32).

The Proclamation, The Spirit of Sickness.
