By nature, man is bound to sin to such an extent
that he often sins without wanting to. He is not
able to wrench himself free from sin. He is
driven by irresistible impulses, which do him no
good. Sin is his master and he is the slave of sin.
Through grace however, this power is
diminished and overcome. And through the
spirit of God, given by grace, it is possible for
everybody to conquer sin. We can fight and be
victorious in this battle. We have this much
freedom, though we must fight for it constantly.
If that is our heartfelt longing, then we can be
conquerors through the grace of Christ and we
can withstand sin, which wants to rule us. The
gospel does not promise us freedom from
struggle and temptation, but it does promise us
freedom from sin--from being obliged to sin.

He Sent His Word.
