So you also, when you have done everything
you were told to do, should say, "We are
unworthy servants; we have only done our duty."
Luke 17:10
With these words Jesus makes the workers in
the kingdom of God into the strongest people,
able to overcome the world. In the kingdom of
God, they can do nothing in their own strength;
it has to be given to them. For it is not they who
do it, but the spirit of the almighty God, who will
act in and through them and before whom all
other spirits must bow. Now we must see to it
that only God is allowed to work; we must not
intervene and want to do something ourselves.
God is like the sun, sending his rays every-
where, even into the dirtiest places.
Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt, from
Christ in the World, Letters to China No. 21, January 1901.
