September 7 - Breakfast with Blumhardt

September 7

With all due respect to Christendom, I say that
Christianity is bogged down in unspeakable
misery. You must admit that Christ, the true
Christ, has become a stranger to us--God's
Christ, who leads us to the tree of life, who
wants to create a new world. Why don't you
listen? People say, "That is going too far. The
church offers us enough consolation in life and
death." Yes, but is that all that Christ wants to
bring? The Buddhist or Muslim also receives
consolation! Jesus does not only want to bring
consolation--he also needs changed people,
living in a new and different atmosphere
according to God's will, not under the shadow
of sin. Will you claim this is not the will of Christ,
that he only wanted to bring comfort? If so, put
the Bible aside, for in that case the prophets
and the apostles were mistaken!

Christoph Friedrich Blumhardt, from
You Belong to God, Jesus the Savior.
